Brothers Campfire Commander Nicholas -An Ongoing Tale Chapter 186

Hello Friends! It has been a while since Commander Nicholas of the Northwich Watch has handed out the prestigious Northwich Warrior Award. He has requested to say a few words.

Commander Nicholas, they are ready….

Commander Nicholas. Not to be trifled with.

I am Commander Nicholas of the Northwich Warrior Society.

Pay attention while I describe this honorable distinction. Is this something you would like on your site?

Of course it is! You are a warrior. But do you have what it takes to earn this?

The Northwich Warrior Award.

This is not a distinction presented as a “Nomination” where you write a chain letter. It is the distinction earned when you write against fear itself. This includes facing a bully, an addiction, phobias, even mental health concerns. Whatever is troubling you, it is time to face that fear by speaking out against it… In writing. I have only awarded a handful of these fine medals to the few who stand tall among the warriors.

When formation is over, It is your duty as a citizen of Northwich to Distinguish yourself as a Northwich Warrior by writing a blog post facing your fear in the the eyeball.

If you can handle the challenge, notify Benjamin from Brother’s Campfire so he can deliver it for my aproval.

Now Move Out Soldier and Do your assignment!

That’s it Storyteller, back to you! …..

Well, uhh. Thanks Nicholas! Looks like we all have some typing to do… Lets break for a story!

Location: Northwich

Commander Nicholas ordered ever increasing stacks of kindling, wood, javelin shafts and throwing stones. A tunnel had been constructed as an escape route, it’s location known to a few. Revealing the location of the tunnel was punishable by death.

James’ freed slaves had assisted greatly in extracting iron from the nearby hills and an industry of manufacturing javelin and spear heads began to emerge. Penelope’s Caravan offered great sums for the iron ingots, but every bit counted for the war preparation.

Nicholas was no fool. He informed Brother that while General Gallio Cordius Ferentinus was a fair man and an able governor, captains of hundreds called centuplicates were given incredible liberties to do as they pleased. Having a plan to deter bullying from a centuplicate was necessary to secure diplomacy until a government was established in a conquered territory.

Nicholas explained that the politics of the Carsiolans was cutthroat in outlying regions of Carsiolia. He explained a notably wicked centuplicate by the named Pontus Uritinus sold him into slavery while he was sleeping, his captors taking him by surprise. He likely did so under the direction of a rival general. His standard colors were burgundy and green. Nicholas had a score to settle with him.

The Carsiolian government was somewhat fluid. One could be at war with a centuplicate, but not a general, and one could be at war with a general but not necessarily at odds with the central Carsiollian Government allowing for plausible deniability for many engagements of war.

In the instance of La Longi, the king, if he was alive could appeal to the Hieriki in the west for assistance, but the Carsiolians would deny involvement citing a “rogue general.”

On the international scale, it could be frowned upon by other nations to declare war on a country that was not invading another.

Due to this political climate, mercenaries were a desirable commodity.

Hmm…Interesting background. I like the map showing more of the continent, too.

        You’re welcome!
Incase you are open for advice, I suggest digging a deep trench a few metres away from the wall.
        Leave a narrow path.
That way, the people of Northwich can come and go, but the enemy cannot surround and attack.
