Hello Friends!

Raising these little friends is bittersweet. I have 13 of the 16 I started with. Some don’t make it as far as we would like. In my sorrow, which is real, I take consolation in the good book.

Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 KJV

I need to look beyond this and assist the living in their development here at Willow Manor.

I put the ducks outside in an enclosure and introduced them to Bubbles my mini Australian Shepherd, and Trumpet my goose. Both were more receptive than I thought they would be. When I have a day off, I am going to supervise more in depth exposure to the great outdoors. My big reason for putting them outside was this.

Every 50 pound of feed is approximately 35 pounds of leftovers if you catch the meaning. That and all the splashing around with the water creates an evil stench! Widefield Investment Group gave me a lot of free straw from a construction project, so I am using it as bedding for my little friends.

I found it necessary to put cardboard around the edges of the pool I have them in as they are already jumping out!

Raising ducks is way different than raising baby chicks! They are way more lively. They seem like they are born knowing what to do.

Like raising any little critter, I am exposing them to lots of stimuli so they are developing physically and mentally. Today was a first exposure to the outdoors, dirt, fresh cut grass, noises, dogs and a grown goose.

I plan on keeping you posted as I go along with these new experiences.

I made a short video showcasing my friends. It is 38 seconds long and you can see it here. Duckys Outside. I did not put any music to it, it is pretty simple.

I hope you all have a beautiful day! I am heading off to work!

          1. We’re doing well. Things are opening up a little here so I’m happy about that, all the days just run together when you can’t really get out and do things. Though we’ve managed to go hiking here and there, so that helps. How about you?
