Brothers Campfire Confronts Jim The Sprinkler Bandit

Hello Friends!

Today started with a hearty goose egg and two slices of toast. We got the bread from God’s Pantry and we are thankful for them.

Thank you Trumpet the goose!

Now, the story of Jim the Sprinkler Bandit!

I have a neighbor in his late 70s named Jim who is obsessed with my sprinkler system for some reason. At the end of every summer, Jim goes in my backyard and steals this piece.

Every spring I go to the hardware store for one and they are always out. Perhaps Jim has been hording them in case of a garden pandemic.

I have not confronted Jim about it because he is trying to be helpful. The piece of brass pictured above is expensive to replace if it freezes. Jim very likely checks to ensure all the valves are open as well.

I have learned this about my neighbor and ignore it, but I have ensured I have an ample supply. The manufacturing companies know you need this for your sprinkler and so they sell you sizes you don’t need as well, just because they can.

I was grateful for Jim when I turned my water on and it did what it was supposed to.

Simple turns with a screwdriver close the valves at the top right. The other is a spigot. It is still cold out, so I am insulating the housing.

Thank you Jim for looking out even if you are a bandit!

Have you ever just asked him, “Hey, Jim. Somebody took my brass cap off for me, do you have any that are the right size that I could use until I get it replaced? I just have all these odd-sized ones.”
