Brothers Campfire The Post With Forearm Pics!

Hello Friends! Welcome to the Campfire!

With a bitersweet farewell, It is the last time I will post about these four little duckies. I have given them to a dear friend for his homestead. They were full of amazing personality, but I have a new batch on the way soon!

Ravelo is a very stand up guy and will give you the shirt off his back.

Careful though, it might be so he can teach you manners.

He is adept at his vocation and a skilled rancher. I am proud to call Ravelo friend and I am confident that my friends have an excellent forever home.

My Friend Ravelo

Before they left I told them that they would be moving. They seemed more excited than fearful to me. I think Ravelos carefree and kind heart kept them relaxed.

My day was busy and mostly photo free. From a company that was giving it away, I picked up 25 bales of straw by wheelbarrow for use at Willow Manor Urban Garden. I walked approximately 5 miles in trips from the site. I got lots of weird glances from cars. I find that amusing as they are machines.

I am using the straw as mulch and planting plants in between.

I also pulled weeds.

In addition, I planted grass, asparagus, squash of several varieties, cucumbers, basil, rosemary, lavender, and cattails.

Cattails…. I am digging them up in a broken drainage ditch and rehoming them.

Getting them is a messy labor of love and the roots are firmly embedded deepin the mud. If you watch any tutorials about how easy it is to get cattail roots for food, try it before you believe it. (I am gathering them for my duck habitat for clarification.)

I tell you, as sure as I was sitting there digging around. In the mud, it felt like a bb gun hit my arm and I cried out. I had had a painful tingling in my arm and it felt a little numb. I continued collecting stubbornly until I saw this.

The local pain shut up and down from my forearm to my finger tips. It really burned. I went home and washed it a bit then replanted my cattails.

I do not know if I was bit by something but this is what it looks like several hours later. I did not scratch the area. And I have no other symptoms other than painfu

This is where it hurts the worst.

Was this a bee sting? If you know, please inform my in the comments.

Not so sure if its allergy or insect bites. Please ask your doctor’s advice if its an allergy.

Yes. I am ordering Khaki Campbell Ducks. They are very efficient layers. The 2 girls I gave away were average layers. The boys just eat. I wanted to start a new flock.

Sad to see the ducks go, but your friend has a kind face, so I’m sure they will be happy. I looked up cutting cat tails re: the stings:
Bee net: We have a few different types of wasps here that attach their nest to the reeds. These can be difficult to see when cutting until I am right on top of them and they are alert, protecting their nest. If my lower body is in water, it is protected. Around my hat, I have pinned a makeshift net to keep from getting stung on my face. I created this net after being stung 5 times on the face in one cutting session. To make it, I simply used netting we already had here on our farm and put a drawstring through it. Then using safety pins, I attach it to the hat.
    I found this advise here:https://dengarden.com/gardening/Cutting-cattails-bulrushes-and-reeds
A bit closing the gate after the horse has bolted! Hope the stings have calmed down 🙂 All the best Caryl

This happened to me . I dug some black soil near the duck pond…ny whole arm got a rash…itchy then sore..the Dr said it was most likely mites. Took a couple of weeks to disappear.

Good to know, thank you! I thoroughly washed my arm, and while the outside swelling went down it hurt all night!

Ooooh ouch. That looks very painful. Doesn’t really look like a bee sting, but I could be wrong.

It is much better. Mites were suggested as a cause. It hurt literally all night!

I truly hope one of the ducks manage to stay upward and roam around the new carer’s yard.
