Rabid Technology Scars

Hello, Benjamin from Brothers Campfire here!

There used to be a chain-link fence between me and my neighbor.

Their dog, a beautiful German Shepherd bit my son when he put his arm too close and so constructed a tall, wooden fence. They took accountability and we moved on.

My son bears the scar and we get along with the neighbors.

I guarantee you though, my hand is going nowhere near this break in the fence for any unreasonable reason. I do not trust the dog on the other side and never will. Good fences make for good neighbors.

I have been told numerous times that German Shepherds are not like that, and my son must have done something wrong.

Tell that to the owners of this poodle. I am not sure what they “did wrong.”

On another fence line at my house is a husky that nearly pulled one of my ducks through.

On yet another fenceline, another dog killed Armando, a goose of mine.

These dangers are part of having birds.

Every once in a while, something tries to kill them. Last year it was the racoons, and this year it is the hawks.

It’s like that for raising children as well. While my son has a scar from the German Shepherd, (link ) there are many worse ways to be scarred.

As a parent, navigating all that is tough. Technology seems to have the biggest injury potential of them all. There are just not enough fences and there are holes throughout.

Do me a favor today. Check your child’s technology.

That video was terrible. I will never be able to get that out of my head. Animals are unpredictable. So are humans.

Do you think it is a good idea to monitor our children’s technology given all the unpredictable behavior?

A German shepherd caused a rift with our neighbors(who are renters) and I demanded that my husband put a locked gate. German shepherds need to be trained. All dogs need to be trained and have boundaries. That video was horrifying. We had a border collie that killed anything smaller than herself. She wiped out a flock. She was dog that had several owners and the last one wasn’t honest about her. Training didn’t work, I ended up rehoming her with a bird hunter. I absolutely agree that we should be monitoring all the things that kids see and hear.

Can’t say that loud enough. Know what your children are seeing and doing on line. Predators target children and teens and they can unintentionally be drawn in to harmful things. It’s protection against heart break for the whole family. Be vigilant out of love for your precious kids.

Hey, I get it. I wish ole Colonel Sanders really did genetically modify four-legged chickens.

I did not watch the video I knew I couldn’t take it. My husband got bitten on his nose as a kid and still has the scars. But he loves dogs and we have a mini schnauzer and it is our fourth of this breed. If any children come to visit my husband watches them closely and tells them to keep their faces away from the dogs and to only pat them on the shoulder. I have friends with German Shepherds and they will tell you that they can and do get aggressive sometimes.

It was graphic for sure. I am glad your husband watches closely over his pets! 🤠🔥

I feel farm animals / pets are very different to the overly domesticated ones. I used to always watch out for animals including cats, dogs, buffalos and even hens when I spent time on my grandparents farm. We had 2 dogs , although they were semi domesticated and lived indoor at times, we as kids were warned of their danger. And adults were always watching especially young babies.

A mother and babies is something to be aware of when our with animals. I ran into a deer and a fawn and almost got in trouble once.
