Brothers Campfire Kraken, Cracking, And Bleary Eyed Conclusion -An Ongoing Tale Episode 245

Hello, Benjamin from Brother’s Campfire here! Gather ‘Round and I will spin you a tale of the Land of La Longi.

“You are late again, Wayne.”

“I am sorry. There was a murder investigation and my relief was late.”

“Here, I made you some duck eggs, but they are cold now. Maybe you can talk to your Captain about getting off on time so you can eat some hot food every once in a while.”

“I need another job, Violet. I’m getting too old for this.”

Violet smiled. “You and me both! You need a job that is a little less exciting.”

Wayne went off to get ready for bed. It was always hard to sleep during the day. He unfastened his outer belt and leaned his sword on a small table by the bed. One never knew when someone might try to break up his home.

As he changed out of his trousers, they made a clinking sound. In his pockets was a small handful of Vijayapuran coin.

“Oh, yes, the Captain’s coins. I was not thinking, I will have to return these to him as soon as possible.”

Watchman Wayne pulled the heavy storm doors shut and pulled the covers over him.

His dreams were of diseased men with woeful ailments, all around him. They reached to touch him and he recoiled on fear, pushing them away. Yet they came on, overpowering him and he cried out in his slumber.

“Babe, are you ok? I think you are having a daymare.”

Wayne’s dreams were so real at times, and he was a little embarrassed as he was not easily rattled. “I am ok, beautiful, I had a bad dream.

Drifting off again, a man, body broken grotesquely, screamed a pitiful cry, asking for help.

The nightmares were just too much and ever frequent. Wayne arose and sat at the edge of his bed, tired and bleary-eyed. It was not even noon. It would be a long day, tired as he was.

His dream was just a dream, but his hearing was fairly accurate. It was not a man screaming, but one of Violet’s friends, upset.

“Justin hasn’t come home, Violet. He comes home at the same time every day. I am beside myself with worry.”

Wayne was instantly awake, heart pounding in his head. He decided to listen first before jumping to conclusions.

“When he left, he said he had a surprise for me. I was so excited. I have been everywhere looking for him.”

Violet comforted the lady and assured her Justin would be home soon; Wayne was not so confident. Wayne put yesterday’s clothes on and stepped into the living room.

“Is everything all right?”

Violet replied, worry thinly veiled in her voice. She knew the violence of the docks and she knew there was a murder. Violet was so proficient in separating his work from their personal life.

“Wayne, Daphne’s husband did not come home last night. Will you help her find him? “

“Of course. Daphne, I have never met your husband. What did he look like, and what was he wearing when you saw him last? “

Daphne was beside herself, and Wayne discovered he was a little taller than Wayne, brown hair, brown eyes, brown clothing. This described just about half of the population of La Longi.

Wayne was already tired and frustration came easily, but he contained it. Further questioning revealed he had a broken nose, a distinct scar on his right arm from a bar fight and a tattoo of a kraken on his upper left arm with the words “Zoqem” under it.

“Zoqem”

Wayne went back to his room and cinched up his sword belt. His clothing was wrinkled, and smelled of everywhere he had been the night before. He looked at his sleeve and saw dried blood and hair from the body he had moved the night before. Wayne changed his shirt, surprised that neither noticed .

Daphne likely failed to describe one detail of  her husband; he probably had a dented skull.
