Italian Grandmother Tells Us About Wheelchairs

Hello, Benjamin from Brother’s Campfire here!

I would like to give a shout out to the Italian Grandma for this super amazing post about wheelchairs. I had no idea what life would send our way last month and Grandma opened my eyes! If you need a chair and some insight, you can check it out here.

We had no idea how to order a new custom wheelchair! Here’s what we learned.

What we didn’t know about choosing a new wheelchair.

My Beloved likely will be using a walker instead of a wheelchair before you know but my, oh my, it is a tough industry to get around from place to place.

The medical industry(?) is not your friend. It is a business. After reading the article above, it concretes what I sell; you need to be with your loved ones in the hospital and every aspect of care to advocate for them.

Thanks For the great read, Italian Grandma!

Damn straight it’s business. I swear it wasn’t always like that. I remember as a kid in the 70’s having a family doctor that was so personable he made house calls.

So if the Mrs is headed towards using a walker I am gonna guess that she has been making great progress ?

She is making great progress, but she cannot use a walker without significant assistance. The insurance company, Cigna does not see a wheelchair as necessary, but she still needs one. I will be getting one for her today so she can do normal things like go to church or go shopping.

Insurance companies are even worse than the medical field, as to what they deem necessary. I’m glad you’re on top of things.

Happy New Year to you and yours. And my best wishes to your wife in her recovery. Yes, the medical business and especially the insurance business are businesses first, sadly.

When my late mother-in-law, who used a walker for the last years of her life, finally needed a wheelchair, we applied to Medicare for it. After some tussles, they approved it. My husband and I found it when we went through her apartment after she passed away. By the time it arrived, she was already bedridden, and it had never been used. The plastic was still on it. We gave it to a friend whose girlfriend was going through some difficulties.

      Happy New Year Friend.

Your story sounds familiar and frustrating. I am sorry for your loss.

Thank you. I was happy to know her. Many people complain about their mothers-in-law. I got lucky. She lived 96 years; she probably learned a thing or two—but still, it was too soon. And she raised a lovely son in my husband.

          I have a great mother-in-law for sure!
They tend to develop great spouses, 😆
