Hello, Benjamin from Brother’s Campfire here!
My latest project is attempting to grow mushrooms.
I have been in contact with an arborist for the appropriate grow media and Field and Forest Products has been very helpful in assisting in my particular grow zone.
My daughter, unbeknownst to her, told me I was weird, but a fun guy nonetheless. It was hilarious, so we recreated the moment.
I want to grow them on logs but also have them in the walkway to increase the likelihood of tripping on them.
Good luck with growing them. Keep us updated to see the progress
Thank you! Right now, I am waiting for the logs and there are a few experiments in the dark recesses of the house. 👻 🕷️ 🍄 Thankfully, I got permission from the Lady of Willow Manor.
😊
🤠🔥
Better than tripping over nothing.
No doubt.
Reminded me of a former boyfriend who had mushrooms growing out of his bathroom wall. Not on purpose… but he also made no effort to remove them.
That is kinda gross, bit kinda cool from a distance!
Exactly! I was both repulsed and fascinated – esp because tgey were those flat ones that grow out of trees.
My uncle Key grew mushrooms in the mountains. When I was little I went with him to inspect the fungi in the woods. The ones he grew are dark brown in colour, we made all sort of dishes out of them.
That sounds amazingly fun and delicious !
They were the types commonly known in southern China. Delicious!
I am not sute what variety you are referring to, but I have met few mushrooms that I did not like!
I think they are called Shiitake
Oh, yeah, those are among the best!
I also attempted mushroom farm at my backyard once, but the came out quite woody, they are the white ones. I think I didn’t water enough.
I understand you to say they were inedible after growing?
Yes, they were too dry and woody, the white ones. I didn’t water then enough.
I will keep that in mind for sure. I plan on growing oyster mushrooms
Watch out for the magic ones, Benjamin. 🤣
Yes ma’am! Leaving those alone!
We are growing another round of oyster mushrooms. we didn’t like the pink mushrooms. We went hunting for murrell mushrooms this fall with success.
Way cool!
Ever heard of Lion’s Mane Mushrooms? Gross.
Yes. I have not tried yet!
😱
But I will if I get the chance!
😊
Uuu mushrooms! We got a mushroom growing kit last year to grow oyster mushrooms and it went really well
I got a Shitake log for Christmas. We will see how it goes!
With your large pile of woodchips , I recommend wine cap mushrooms. Good to eat, they destroy bacteria, and can get quite large.
