The Ongoing Tale at Brother’s Campfire Volume 2, Chapter 15 Walter Berengar

Sitting up after being hanged by the neck isn’t proper.

I take some blame for being unnaturally thin, but in reality, they just didn’t hang me until I was dead.

Uncle Walter cut me down with plenty of time to spare.
In reality, I got bored of kicking when folks stopped getting excited about it.

Ole’ Doctor Gryll went on and on about it and said it was a notable miracle. Tears in his eyes, he was lifting his hands and talking to God.
Mind you that this same man said prayer didn’t fix my hernia, but oh well.

Those King’s men tiptoed around Uncle Walter and said polite words like yes sir and excuse me, and we left the town of Northwich at a pace of my uncle’s choosing.

Jabez and Jacob had told me about the montante Uncle Walter carried, but I hadn’t seen it before, but the King’s men must have.
It was nearly as long as a man was tall and my uncle carried it with one hand.

Well, Mom and dad were so happy to see me that they made me stay home for a while. I wasn’t sure if they were fitting to sell me at the market the way they fattened me up, but I wasn’t complaining.

The Preacher man came by to visit a few times and said folks were coming to church in droves. He wanted me to pray about saying a few words to the Northwich Congregation when my parents felt I was up to it, and I agreed to.

I read a ton of westerns and never have I read of a hangee (is that the right word?) living through it. What a great twist.

      Thank you!
Hopefully it is a first in a story!

I do have a few references for my thought process on writing this though.
Joseph Samuels and John Lee had unique examples of botched hanging. In my research I also took into account hangings where it took a long time to die. In examples of “drawing and quartering,” almost being hung was a brutal reality where the worst was yet to come.

Hey, Dude… sorry about the “U view my post; I view ur post” thing. But I can’t remember who are all the people I follow and I have difficulty finding the posts of those whom I follow.

So when I see ur name as a notification of ur ‘like’, I’m like “Ohhh, yeah! Lemme go check out Bro’s Campfire posts!” LOL

Lol! I wish I could write them faster, but real life keeps getting in the way!

      How are you doing?

Pretty good, lots of real life in the form of our home renovation and phd getting in the way here too. How is your wife’s recovery?

Soon as I finished the first chapter I continued on until I reached chapter 15. I was hooked. I also stayed up way to late and am now getting some shut eye. 😁😁
