Popping Pills and Priority Thrills

Hello, Benjamin from Brother’s Campfire here!

This one is a rant.

My right shoulder, arm and wrist are yelling at me today. I took two excellent falls worthy of writing an epic.

The first, I hit my head on a cabinet while standing up. It was a hard enough hit to see black and fall without control.

That hurt.

The second, I tripped over a basket of laundry in the middle of the night and sprawled, landing it fairly well.

I hurt. Motrin is a constant companion for the time being.

Someone elses arms and not Motrin, but a decent stock photo.

I am sure this blog is dry reposts of the same thing at the moment. I don’t have the capacity to assess this right now, but the writing is therapeutic.

It is time to find equilibrium in a new normal. In the rant below, obviously I plan to care for my Beloved or schedule it with a friend.

There are a lot of voices telling me what to do and pull me one direction or the other. My focus stands. I follow Jesus and take care of my family. Everything else is irrelevant.

Work will resume on Wednesday. It is so I can continue to support the war machine.

There are a few who have insinuated that I am not doing a whole lot sitting around the house. Here is my reasoning; I am using the sick time I collected to care for my Beloved.

It is time I earned to use to care for a loved one.

If I choose to grow into a chair sitting by my wife it is no one elses business. Last time I checked, I pay the light bill at Willow Manor.

Some think I should work on the yard or make home improvements. There are others that think I should make time for myself and go for a hike.

Nope. Not interested. If opportunity arises, and it does not keep me from my primary focus, sure, but I will decide that.

When I resume work to continue paying the light bill, there are steps I have that do not include listening to every little voice.

That’s my rant. If I say so myself, It is clear, concise, and correct.

All this voice is going to say is: make sure all laundry baskets moved and all cabinets closed before you lay yourself out completely! Last thing you need to do is go back to work and someone things you’ve been abused because of lumps and bumps and you have to sheepishly admit “I tripped over the bed – it jumped out of nowhere!” I spent a long time tumbling and rolling over stuff. And it REALLY hurts (depending on the fall).

As for what you do with the time you earned is up to you. But please remember you do not (and should not) take it all on yourself. I’ve been there. Caring for loved ones and keeping the lights on gets super stressful. Make sure you have an outlet for that stress. You don’t have to hike, garden, build houses for squirrels or any of that. If sitting in a chair for two hours next to your wife makes you happy, then grow roots. Just make sure to take 30 minutes a day where you don’t let your brain ruminate on the to-do list. Even if it’s just sitting with your wife and discussing a movie you both thought was so bad it was hilarious. Just do you. Be happy.

And I wish for a speedy recovery for both of you!

I have spent too much of my life tripping over such things and bashing my head into same. Just make sure the path is clear and then do whatever makes you happy – generally concussions do not fit the bill LOL

Yes. One that comes due at the hospital, and one that comes much later. Although, you could probably go buy a football helmet just to walk around the house in… lol

          2. Benjamin says:

I got a concussion in high school when the teacher forced me to play unorganized tackle football with the boys with no gear. I haven’t been as sharp since.

          3. Marlapaige says:

The first one i know about and remember was at a previous job. Got punched in the head by someone I was working with. I was never too sharp to start with, and somehow, that dulled me even more lol

          4. Benjamin says:

I would never call you dull.

Tell me the story! I want to know!

          5. Marlapaige says:

I worked with individuals with autism. I was a job coach. My program was the most behavioral of the adults able to work. This particular individual was with me at a job site with two other staff. That day I was staffing 1:1 because this individual was the bane of my existence. They decided that while we were waiting to be given the cleaning supplies to clean down tables and chairs and windows at a restaurant that… self attention was needed. I attempted to verbally redirect, and got a surprise punch to the top of my head. We all immediately left because 0-a million was common enough.

That was about 10:30 am. I worked the rest of the day with a migraine and thought nothing of it because I get migraines. 2+2 did NOT equal 4 that day, I was dull as a flat surface. My boss noticed that I was off when he got back from a meeting and had one of the van drivers drop me at the hospital. I had a concussion. They said “thank you for your insurance information. It’s a concussion. Drive safely!” Fun times!

          6. Marlapaige says:

Eh, that wasn’t even the worst. I’ve had an entire toilet ripped out of a wall and thrown at me. I’ve had a wall mirror smashed on me. Been attacked so many ways and so many time. I LOVED that job. I miss it every day for the last ten years.

          7. Marlapaige says:

I don’t even have a clue what to write for mine 😂

Just so you know, I wouldn’t write about those experience. I will speak of them in comments, but those stories are between me and the individuals that I was working with. I can not get their consent for publishing, nor would I ask as those are fond memories and for me and them, if that makes sense. So if you have an idea what I would write, I’m all ears!

          8. Benjamin says:

Ah, I see. Well thanks for sharing them. You could write about whatever comes to mind! 🤠🔥

Unfortunately, today, we live in a society of blamers and shamers (social media has taught us that). While we do not always have top agree with what someone else does, says or thinks, we also can choose to try to understand, before spouting off what we would do or they should do. My first job was with a multi office firm and the first thing I was taught was never to say “In my last office, we used to do it this way.” A sure fire ticket to ostracism. You have every right to spend your sick time as deemed best, by you. Your beloved is the priority at the moment. Stay well and stay ranty, Benjamin. Allan

It’s nobodies business concerning what you do with your time. You do you. Let them do them, and buy yourself a set of earplugs.

I’m on the same page as you big brother. First I’ll be praying for healing and strength for you after all those trips and falls-those do hurt!!
Second, you are absolutely right -it’s no one’s Business what you do and don’t do but yours. You know what is best for you and your family and your doing a mighty great job. Seeing a husband that loves his wife and loves his children -does and will do anything to make sure they are taken care of. Everything you do you always do it with love.
It’s Annoying when other people put their nose where it don’t belong. I always tell people, God will and always directs our steps.
My mom would always say-still does, the last time I checked I’m the one paying the bills in this house so i would suggest you keep your nose out of my Business…what goes on and is said in this house stays in this house, no one needs to know ( what I do is) my business .

Keep on doin’ what you’re doin’. You are the authority in your life, and at Willow Manor and you have a good safety net of authority that you accept in your own life. It is enough. It’s hard to deal with some nay-sayers but just shine them on and tell them your prayer is that they never have to go through such a thing.

There will always be dissenters, naysayers. I’ve dealt with it for 24 years…first when I decided to raise my son as a single parent, then when I lost my job and took my parents offer to stay home and help out around the house and with my mom, then when my dad was diagnosed with terminal liver disease. It’s hard to do at first, but learning to ignore the naysayers is a must, even if you need to keep a little distance.

Who would insinuate that you aren’t doing a lot “sitting around the house”? You sound like you have an awful lot on your plate! Being a caregiver is a huge responsibility. And you have to take care of yourself too! I’m wincing reading about your injuries

Thank you JYP. I feel a lot better after those 2 injuries. I have been tired and not paying attention as wellnas I should.

My heart goes out to those that were hostages. One should boldly serve the Lord with Joy and Gladness. I pray folks return to worship without fear. 🤠🔥

Absolutely!! Sit right beside her and soak in those moments as long as you wish 🙌❤️

And yup – you earned the time … so you should get to have that time however you decide.

Hope you enjoying the moments together – quite the bonding experience I could imagine??

You are very sweet to stay by her side – I would do the same in a similar situation.

Hope you are both doing well and stronger by the day! 🙌 ❤️
