23 And Me Results at Brothers Campfire

Hello, Benjamin from Brother’s Campfire here!

On December 14th, 2021, My Beloved and I took a DNA test through 23 And Me. This involved not drinking for half an hour, spitting in a plastic tube, and sending it off to a lab for a fee. There is not much to read about it in the link below, but you can see how the day built up to the moment of shameless slobber.

We downloaded the application for 23 and me and got started. Social networking is important to finding relatives so I reached out to my Beloved.

She was smart enough to ignore it.

Well, the results are in. I have a few notables I would like to share.

So, they broke down the whereabouts of folks with similar DNA and I am mostly British and Irish with a smattering of French, German and Scandinavian.

I suppose that makes me an All American mutt, and thats ok with me.

I don’t know what to say to this one but I have always been a hard gainer. I lose the genetic lottery here.

I can outwalk most of these fellas, but that doesn’t make the Olympics.

This one is true but it is hard to tell with all the Campfires burning the brow.

There is more.

Ask my Beloved, my kids, and anyone close to me. Please wake me from a distance. I react a bit on occasion. So true.

This one surprised me. I have chosen to jump put of a perfectly good airplane

My my my…..

Then this was the clincher.

“I am Beast!”

It was fun reading my results and comparing them to my Beloved’s. Some of the assessments were dangerously accurate.

Do I recommend it?

Hmm…

Have you ever been to a carnival and paid up for a turkey leg or gone to a restaurant for the experience?

It’s kinda like that.

Have any of you out there tried 23 and Me? What do you think?

It is a little crazy. I think the friends you make along the way are some of the best family.

That’s funny and interesting about the Neanderthal DNA. I’ve thought about doing that genetic testing for years, but I’ve never done it. Maybe I finally will this year. Sounds fun. Blessings!

It is fun, but keep in mind that in my opinion, it is an overpriced experience like a county fair. I still go, but I have my eyes wode open and keep my expectations low! 🤠🔥

I’ve got “don’t know what would become of my dna info” paranoia so I haven’t tried it.

Thx for sharing some of your results!

Ha ha! A lot of people feel just like you on this one. My DNA 🧬 is out in the public anyway, so I am not concerned, but I can see the concerns of others. 🤠🔥

Still a skeptic what these companies will do with all the DNA data collected and now law enforcement seems to be using these samples where suspects have not yet given DNA samples to the police database. I think I’ll just go with what my Mom and Dad told me. No matter what my DNA says, I’m still 100% me. Stay well Benjamin. Allan

I did this several years ago. I’m 98.9% Northwestern European and most of that is British/Irish. The one thing that sticks out to me, out of all of my “predictions,” was the one that said that I was likely to have no red hair. I am a redhead. Of course, very little of that is left, now, but when I was younger, it was deep red, almost auburn. It also said that my likely wakeup time, on my days off, is 6:44 AM (that’s very specific). Oddly enough, I struggle to sleep past 6:30, regardless of what time I hit the sack. This morning, I was awake at 6:00 (actually before, but that’s when I got up).

That is pretty cool. I think some of these predictions come from surveys they ask you to do, making them fairly accurate.

The parts of Europe fit with what Mom and I have been learning from Ancestry. We are going to do the 23 & me test as well because it has different things.
I’m not too concerned with the police using it. If I commit a crime, I know they will catch me sooner or later and if it’s bad enough, I will become one of your customers and the idea is less than appealing.

It is a novelty thing at the moment, but We may shell out the dough to try out Ancestry.

I am not worried about committing crimes either. Wearing ill-fitting green clothes and getting naked in public does not sound advantageous. 🤠🔥

I did Ancestry but it basically told me what I already knew that I am 26%German-18%Welsh-14%Syrian-13%Polish and a few more countries with very low %’s including Baltics, Scotland, Italy, Ireland, England & Norway.

I think they are mostly all the same racket of making you pay for your DNA then reselling said info to others. 🤠🔥

I did not know either. It was pretty nifty! One thing I do not like is all the survey questions.
      I suppose they help though.

I’m adopted and I did all of them. I do not buy in to the health results… mostly… but finding my people and my origins has been priceless. Enjoy the journey!!

Thanks, I am enjoying the journey!

The health results reminded me of palm reading. It is sort of an educated guess on their part, much like the fear of heights and the unibrow in this post.

Knowing your roots has value, Mom of 3 Gentleman.
However, much of who I call family is “adopted”. Selected or chosen family has value as well!

Friend, I am so glad you drop by the Campfire!

I did the DNA test through My Heritage a couple years ago…didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know though. The Morris’ came from Wales…On my own research, I found part of the Morris lineage going into Sweden, Finland and then Russia – back to B.C. and Charlemagne on one branch. My grandmother used to say that the Morris’ are related to Princess Diana, and with all the kings/queens I found I wouldn’t be surprised. We’re also related to the Robert Morris that signed the Declaration of Independence, but not directly (he was the brother of my great great great something grandfather, or something like that). There’s so many stories…but I do know that if you come from Europe, we are related. Even if only as distant cousins.

Wow! They called you a mutt! (Just kidding) 😁😜 But aren’t we all? I’m 1/4 Native American. (Father was 1/4 Choctaw and mother is 1/4 Cherokee) and also have some Italian on my paternal Grandmother’s side. I also have German and Irish- so I’m also a mutt. 🤣😂🤣😂 Although I haven’t tried 23 & Me. I plan on it after reading this. Thank you for sharing the results, Ben. This was an intriguing and thought provoking read. 🙂

If I do it, I’ll definitely share it. I guess I’m a little leery of it because it smacks of big tech and government getting your DNA info. But that’s just me. I want to do it, but, on the other hand…ah, you know where I’m coming from. 😁😁😁 If I do, you’ll be the first blogger friend to know. 😊🤗

Thank you Ben, I guess that popped into my mind right after I posted my comment. About 15 years ago I did a family tree on Ancestry.com and you wouldn’t believe the info I found on my family and ancestors! Now that was exciting! 😃

          2. cheriewhite says:

I would just type in my late great grandparents’ names and a branch would grow on the screen. I did this at the local library where there was an Ancestry exert giving lecture. She mentioned that it might be hard for some to find information because of a fire that happened in 1909, or sometime around that year, it completely destroyed the department of vital records in DC so a lot of info was lost. I couldn’t find the actual birthday’s of my greats- all I know is that they were born between 1888 and 1896. My great grandparents were as far as I got. Luckily, I got the names of two of my great-great grandparents so I’ll definitely go back and look them up. 🤗

My brother took one of those DNA tests…

    It opened a Pandora’s box 😮

Family that we unaware of came barreling back into our lives 😮 that was quite the experience lol crazy!!

I have not done it because I am afraid to… I have had breast cancer and I am afraid insurance companies will get access and then deny me for whatever reasons if I am susceptible to certain conditions.

    I am weird with things

Also my brother is not allowed to open any more pandoras boxes without letting me know first lol

Mine would be different from his since we are siblings with different dna from same parents … but his was 100% European … Ireland and Lithuania

He is massive Neanderthal which explains a lot …at 97% 😄😄 yes I tease him lol

2% Southern European – Italy, Balkan Peninsula and Malta 😮 we didn’t know any of that!!

Is mostly Ireland though – he has most DNA from

    County Galway
    County Mayo
    County Cork
    County Dublin
    County Kerry
    County Limerick
    And County Clare

    😮😮 so kinda Irish lol

I am also curious but we see ?? I just kinda hang back with that because as you know I am overly cautious lol ✌️

    Maybe someday?

It says we branched off from Eastern Africa and his maternal haplogroup is H6a 1b2
    And his paternal haplogroup is:
    R-S691

I have no idea what any of that means lol ✌️

But I definitely tease the Neanderthal lol 😄😄❤️

He loved getting all that info… but called me frantically because people kept messaging him saying “we family” 😄😄🙄 I said what you think was gonna happen? Lol
