Brothers Campfire When Sheepdogs Laugh-An Ongoing Tale Chapter 84

The shift change was full of shenanigans as Watchman Wayne recounted his story. The Sergeant raised an eyebrow, amused. The other watchmen stared at Wayne with large toothy grins.

“Let me get this straight, Wayne. You say some floozy from the Puking Peasant came to your house and forced her way in. You hastily dressed and. urged her to go outside with you. Then the two of you went to the nearest guard shack and were attacked by robed men. You killed two and the others fled. When you checked on the two you felled, a pair of bizarre hosen appeared?”

“That is correct.”

“Then what?”

The other watchman laughed. They were not discreet in their opinions. Watchman Wayne’s ears were red with embarrassment.

One spoke up,

“That was a good story. Tell us the one about the oatmeal in your boots!”

The Captain was a gruff veteran and wanted to go about his day and had enough.

His voice boomed. “All right, shift change is over!”

The watchmen left, laughing as they went.

The Captain pulled Wayne aside.

“Wayne, you  have worked the beat for a while and your reputation for credibility is second to none. Take a few paid days off and clear your head. You’ve been working too many hours or drinking to many pints.”

Watchman Wayne was frazzled. ” but Captain, I….”

“let it go Wayne. Go home.”

Watchman Wayne opened the door, and standing right in front of the station was Violet.

Officers catcalled.

“Violet, I am afraid they do not believe that there is a plot against the king.”

Well, to be fair, it would sound kind of far-fetched to them. We were there when it happened.
