Brothers Campfire The Burden of the Beast-An Ongoing Tale Chapter 88

Caydon Berengar, son of Emerson went to see the Beast. He brought in his bag the baby pequin he had captured. This was not his first time he had visited.

He was family.

As he approached his home, the Beast roared and came running in full stature and fierceness towards the child. Caydon looked at his adopted uncle and was relaxed. He had seen him this way before.

“IT IS YOU! I THOUGHT YOU WERE PEQUIN. YOU SMELL LIKE PEQUIN.”

Caydon had never known the Beast to harm small things. He was gentle and protective.

He opened his bag. ” look what I caught!”

He showed him the red withered looking creature. “my sister says they can be nice if you mentor them.”

The Beast was not happy. “CAYDON, THEY ARE NICE WHEN THEY ARE YOUNG. THEN THEY ATTACK YOU. THEY FEED FROM FEAR. BE CAREFUL!”

Caydon responded in the way that boys have responded since the beginning of time.

“I know.”

The young man was on a mission.

” Uncle Jeptha, will you take me to La Longi to see my friends?”

The Beast was still put off by the Pequin smell and it affected his thinking. It touched him that Caydon had friends.

“YES, I WILL TAKE YOU.”

A small voice of reason gnawed at the back of his mind, clouded though it was.

“WHAT DID YOUR PARENTS SAY ABOUT IT?”

Caydon replied, ” oh, they won’t mind.”
